Christiana – A Heritage of Faith

In 1837, a Lutheran family living in Mittelheim, Germany fled religious persecution for the colony of New South Wales, where they settled at Camden Park Estate and worked for the Macarthur family. As the first German immigrants in the colony, the Sickolds introduced Rhine Riesling grapes, leaving a lasting mark on the Australian wine industry. 

But it was during a chance encounter between their eldest daughter Christiana and convict John Cox, that an unlikely union and legacy was formed that has reverberated down through the generations.

Janet E. Turner is an author, wife, mother and grandmother based on the New South Wales South Coast. She began her career as a primary school teacher before moving to Nairobi, Kenya to work as a missionary with street children. However it was after the death of her mother during the COVID Pandemic that Janet discovered extensive family documents extending back to the matriarch; her great, great, great grandmother Christiana Cox. Intrigued by the role faith played in Christiana’s life, Janet felt compelled to share her story.
