Do you really understand the Apostle Paul’s teachings about faith, works, grace, and the Law? Even the apostle Peter warned that some of Paul’s writings were “hard to understand,” and that many were already distorting them in the first century.
In this book, a new and exciting solution to Paul’s most difficult passages is presented. It is an ambitious attempt to advance Pauline studies, seeking to offer a superior exegesis.
We begin by carefully defining what the Bible means by “justified by works,” identifying five clear biblical criteria. From there, we test whether paths to justification such as repentance of sin and the Law of Moses actually fit those criteria. The results might surprise you.
We then examine whether statements like “there are none righteous” tell us that all people fall short of deserving forgiveness, or merely that all need forgiveness. After this work, we are ready to reassess familiar passages such as Ephesians 2:8–9 and Romans 4:2–8, asking whether Paul is truly contrasting faith with works (commonly seen as faith alone with faith and works)—or grace against works, and faith against the Law of Moses.
These corrections are not subtle, they are major shifts, so great care is taken when putting them forward. When applied, they broaden the context of Paul’s message significantly, and his letters are harmonized with the rest of the Scripture to a level not previously seen.
Topics such as free will, Calvinism, humility, Abraham’s promises, James versus Paul, election, and apologetics, are also looked at.
If you seek to ensure your understanding of Paul’s message rests a fortified foundation—this is a book you cannot afford to miss.
