Faith Unbroken – The Shirley Collins Story

Shirley Collins’ remarkable journey of faith began with a simple yet life-changing gift—a Bible placed in her hands at just five years old by her non-Christian mother. From that moment on, her life would be shaped by an unwavering trust in God.

Through the hardships of the Great Depression, the uncertainty of World War II, and humble beginnings living in a tent in the bushland of Berowra, Shirley’s faith only deepened. Yet her greatest trials were still to come. Shortly after the birth of her son, Iain Bruce, she was abandoned by her husband—left to navigate life as a single mother with courage and determination.

Refusing to give in to despair, Shirley pursued training as a teacher, eventually securing a position at Berowra Public School. But God’s call on her life stretched far beyond the classroom. In 1956, with bold faith and her young son by her side, she answered a missionary calling to the remote and challenging regions of Arnhem Land in Australia’s Northern Territory.

Now, as she approaches her 97th year, Shirley reflects with deep gratitude on a lifetime marked by God’s faithfulness and presence. Her story is a powerful testament to perseverance, sacrifice, and wholehearted devotion to Christ—an inspiring reminder that no cost is too great when following Him.
